• My best bet: ENG/SLO top-2. Odds: 3.65

England are the clear group favorites due to the impact Fabio Capello has had on the team. They have a lot of players in their peak right now and this is their best chance of winning the World Cup. Saying that, England will be highly dependent on their talisman, Wayne Rooney. If England are to go all the way, they need Rooney to be fully fit and in top form. If Rooney is injured or not at his best, England will struggle.

USA are very organized and play in with a 4-4-2 formation. Their players have ability and spirit but they don’t possess the quality up front to cause any real problems.

Slovenia should not be overlooked and to prove it, they knocked out Russia in the play-offs. They have a great defense and have conceded less goals than any other European team in the qualifiers. They are not blessed with many striking options but have enough to dig deep and get that vital second place spot.

Algeria managed to qualify in a replay against Egypt thanks to a monumental effort. The team is well spirited and young but struggle to perform when playing outside of Algeria. They will struggle in this group unfortunately due to their lack of quality and experience.

Argentina is at the mercy of Maradona and his tactics. The team has massively under-achieved under Maradona despite being very strong on paper. They have the World’s best player in Messi in their team but will probably leave Diego Milito (the Champions League hero for Inter Milan) on the bench. No-one knows how they will line up but they should not be ruled out. They have superb players and if they click, can certainly top and the group and go all the way.

Nigeria is managed by Swede, Lars Lagerbäck. He brings qualities such as discipline and organization and also has plenty of fire power at his disposal. The problems Nigeria face are whether their defense can do their job and whether their organization will survive the whole game. They have plenty of ability but the lack of structure may be their downfall.

Greece will not be under-estimated ever again. They are boring and unattractive but are very well organized and play on the counter-attack. Saying this, they were very lucky to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and will not be a threat at this World Cup.

South Korea is Asia’s best footballing side who are very well organized. They all work extremely hard and have an abundance of pace in their team. They lack leadership in both defense and attack though but I am sure Man United’s Park will play a key role in their fortunes. South Korea, I think, still possess enough quality to progress past the group stage due to their pace and speed.

• My best bet: Uruguay going through – odds 2.10

France are a funny team as their style of play lacks creativity, especially going forward. Domenech’s reign as coach will come to an end after the 2010 World Cup and this can only be negative in my opinion. They have great players and if they start well, they have the potential to go all the way.

Uruguay’s coach Oscar Washington Tabarez is under pressure despite their results in recent years. They play in a 4-3-3 formation and tend to adapt to their opponents. They are often underestimated but are a tough side with some great players like Diego Forlan and Porto star Rodriguez.

Mexico, led by Aguerre, play in a very well settled 4-3-3 formation and have a group of highly experienced and skilled players that can pass the ball around with ease. They tend to struggle away from home turf and their key players are Blanco, Marquez and Franco.

South Africa has Parreira as their coach. He has a lot of experience and a very shrewd and smart tactician. Their players are technically gifted and well organized but they lack firepower in attack. Everton’s Pienaar is their star player but with local support will be hard to beat. However, they are just not strong enough.

Tip: Parma & FC Copenhagen Double To Win

Livorno have known their Serie A fate for a long time whilst Parma are in 9th and looking for a strong finish. Parma beat Juventus 3-2 away from home last time out so, with home advantage, 1.40 is great value. FC Copenhagen have already won the league but want to celebrate in style in front of their home fans. Expect nothing less than a home win here too.

German Cup: Werder Bremen – Bayern München

Tip: Werder Bremen To Win

Odds: 3.75

Bremen are not the favourites here whilst Bayern are looking to win the treble. They have the Champions League in a week’s time so they might have an eye on that game. Bremen finished the season stronger than any other team, and with odds of 3.75, it’s worth taking.

Europa League – Final: Athletico Madrid vs Fulham

Prediction: Fulham to win

First and foremost it is a magnificent achievement by Roy Hodgson to take a small team like Fulham to the final of the Europa League.

Roy is not only an accomplished manager who has vast international experience, he has the ability the get the best out of all his players albeit a small squad. He is big on team spirit and this is evident in their progress in this competition.

Apart from football, he is knowledgeable about many diverse subjects such as world history and music. Inter Milan people still are very fond of him despite Roy being in charge during a difficult phase in their history.

I think very highly of Roy and I rank him as one of the best five coaches in world football. He has managed a Fulham team that has deservedly beaten great teams such as Juventus and Wolfsburg on its way to the final.

Athletico Madrid on the other hand has more experienced players that have played in big European matches. Players such as Forlan and Aguero should not be underestimated in the game but Athletico have had the easier path into the final.

Athletico Madrid is the strong favourite as they have better players on paper but take nothing away from Fulham. They are well organized and their players are playing in the biggest game of their careers whilst some of the Athletico players will have an eye on the upcoming World Cup. The game will be very tight though.

France – Ligue 1: Lille vs Marseille & Auxerre vs Lens

Prediction: Double: Lille and Auxerre to Win

Odds: 1.65 and 1.35 (Overall Odds: 2.23) at Expekt.com

Both Lille and Auxerre are fighting hard to qualify for the remaining Champions League places. Auxerre face a Lens team that have nothing to play for whilst they need to win to push for a Champions League spot.

In the other game, Lille have the best home record in the division so expect a win against a Marseille team that have already won the league.

Germany – Bundesliga: Werder Bremen vs Hamburger SV & Nürnberg vs FC Cologne

Prediction: Double: Werder Bremen and Nürnberg to Win

Odds: 1.65 and 1.55 (Overall Odds: 2.56) at Expekt.com

Werder Bremen have won their last 4 games and are fighting hard for a Champions League spot. Hamburg have nothing to play for and are de-motivated after losing out to Fulham in the Europa League Semi-Final last week so expect a home win here.

Nürnberg are fighting for their Bundesliga lives and in order to survive need all 3 points. Cologne are languishing in mid-table and have nothing to play for so expect a must needed home victory.

Spain – Primera Division: Sevilla vs Barcelona

Prediction: Sevilla to Win

Odds: 6.25 at Expekt.com

It can happen, why not?! The odds for a home win are too good to be overlooked. Sevilla are a very good side at home and are chasing that 4th Champions League spot. Barcelona are the obvious favourites who will push to maintain their league at the top of the table but they are playing away from home to a very dangerous side.

Other Double – Premier League: Aston Villa vs Blackburn Rovers and Primera Division: Tenerife vs Almeria

Prediction: Double: Aston Villa and Tenerife

Odds: 1.50 and 1.65 (Overall Odds: 2.47) at Expekt.com

Aston Villa have a good home record whilst they are fighting to finish as high up as possible up the table whilst Blackburn are in mid-table and have nothing much to play for.

Tenerife have the best home record from teams in the bottom half and need to points to avoid relegation. I also predicted that Almeria would beat Villareal last time out at 3.60 which has secured their Primera Liga status for next season. As they have nothing to play for now, I fully suspect Tenerife will take full advantage and take all 3 points.

Bastia – Vannes 1:80 – 3:25 – 4:45

Prediction: Bastia to win

Odds: 1.80

This game between Bastia and Vannes in the French second division is a good one to bet on. Bastia must win in order to hang on and are quite strong on home territory. They have won their last four games 1-0 at home so 1.80 represents good value.

Almeria – Villarreal 3:10 3:30 2:25

Prediction: Almeria to win

Odds: 3:10

Almeria is normally quite strong at home but are going through a bad run of form lately. They have two home games on the trot in order to save themselves from being dragged into the relegation battle. Villarreal on the other hand are a top team but are not very good on their travels. From 17 away games, they have lost 10 of those. Almeria needs a result and this combined with Villarreal’s woeful away form, I would back Almeria to win at 3:10.
