Slovakia 2010 World Cup

SlovakiaGroup F – Slovakia Analysis

There is no question that Group F will be one of the toughest groups in the 2010 World Cup. Slovakia will need to compete against two strong teams, Italy and Paraguay and make a strong showing against at least one of them to be a serious contender in the championship. Most predictions give Slovakia a win over New Zealand on June 15th but that win will not be enough for Slovakia to clear Group F and advance to the top 16.

Bet365.com is offering exactly the odds that you would expect in the June 15th match up between Slovakia and New Zealand. The odds are 7.50 for a New Zealand win, 1.45 for a Slovakian and 4.10 for the two teams to tie. Bodog is also offering odds on the New Zealand/Slovakia game with 6.00 for a New Zealand victory, -1.00 for a Slovakian win and 4.00 for a draw.

BetUS is offering the same odds as Bet365 for a New Zealand victory over Slovakia at 7.50 while a Slovakian win carries odds of -2.50. This means that if you would like to place a bet on Slovakia over New Zealand in the first round of play, you will need to bet $2.50 to win $1.00 at BetUS.

Slovakia – Beyond Group F

It will be a long road of upsets for Slovakia to advance farther than the group round. Ladbrokes is currently offering 151.00 odds for Slovakia to win the 2010 World Cup. Should you place a $1.00 bet at Ladbrokes for Slovakia to take home the trophy and they are successful, you will win $151.00. However, this bet might be too big of a long shot to be worthwhile.

The Slovakian Team

The obvious hope for Slovakia in the 2010 World Cup is the team’s lead goal scorer Robert Vittek. However, many eyes will also be on the midfielder Miroslav Karhan who has the potential to post some numbers for his team during the first round. Overall, Slovakia will have to rely on offensive production from the forwards and a balanced midfield to hope to do well in 2010. You should include Slovakia in your World Cup betting though, as they are capable of surprises.

Slovakia World Cup History

In their first World Cup appearance in 1934, (then Czechoslovakia) Slovakia finished in second place with a record of 3-0-1. They would repeat this standing again in 1962 with a 3-1-2 record. 2010 will be their ninth appearance in the World Cup tournament. It is also the first year that they have qualified for the tournament since their quarter final finish in 1990.
