South Africa vs. Mexico Half-Time Report
So here we are, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is finally on it’s way. It has been a long wait but now we can all look forward to several weeks of World class football.
The opening game between South Africa and Mexico is on it’s way and in half time the score is 0 – 0.
While we are waiting for the second half to start we would like to provide you with a short recap as well as some stugg that we have picked up during the game.
- The opening ceremony wasn’t really anything special in my opinion, all I could see was a self promoting president.
- Nelson Mandela did not manage to show for the opening ceremony due to a tragedy in the family.
Minute 1 – 10:
Mexico is applying a lot of pressure early on but they don’t really create any dangerous chances.
Minute 10 – 20:
After 16 minutes of play South Africa gets a free-kick in a good position but the shot goes wide.
In the 18th minute Efrain Juarez of Mexico gets the first yellow card of the game.
Mexico keeps holding on to the ball and they are looking like the strongest team in the game so far.
Minute 20 – 30:
After 24 minutes of play South Africa breaks through the Mexico defense but the goal keeper makes the save after some fumbling with the ball. It seems like South Africa are starting to find their pace now and they are creating some decent chances.
As the game is progressing South Africa is holding on to the ball more than before and it seems like they are starting to take charge of the game at this point.
In the 29th minute South Africa has another effort on goal but it is no match for the Mexican goalkeeper.
Dikgacoi of South Africa gets the second yellow card of the game in the 29th minute.
Minute 30 – 45:
We are in to the final 15 minutes of this opening game and it’s impossible to predict the winner of this game at the moment. Both teams have had some good chances but it is still 0 – 0 at this point.
After 32 minutes of play Franco of Mexico comes free with the goalkeeper and should make it 0 – 1 here but manages to miss this chance.
Just a minute later Mexico breaks through the defense again but the final shot is off target. At this point Mexico should be in the lead but we are still tied at 0 – 0.
After 37 minutes of play Mexico has yet another great chance to score but it is tipped out to a corner.
After 38th minutes Mexico scores following the corner that they were just awarded but C. Vela of Mexico is ruled offside.
In the 40th minute of play Mexico gets another great change to score but the final header ends up just over the post.
In the 42nd minute South Africa gets a corner kick which goes over the goalkeeper but the South African player that goes in for the header misses the ball.
One minute later South Africa gets a golden opportunity to score but the cross is not good enough and we remain goal less.
South Africa keeps racking up corners now and they are well taken. It’s a shame the forwards don’t manage to get a clean hit on the ball with their headers or we would have the hosts leading by one right now.
We have reached the 45th minute and there is 1 minute of added time announced.
There goes the half-time whistle and we have a goal less draw at half-time in the opening game between the hosts, South Africa and Mexico.
At this point it is still anyone’s game but if I would have to pick a winner I would say that Mexico will end up winning, they should have been in the lead already to be honest.
