France and Portugal under pressure

1

Two of the European giants of football are under heavy pressure after failing direct qualification and now face a tough face-off starting tomorrow. Many of us can’t imagine a World Cup tournament without players like Christiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Franck Ribery and many others. This might be the reality though, if the results on Saturday and Wednesday goes against them.

We can present some good World Cup odds where you make good money should the Irish or the Bosnian team come up with any surprises. As most of you noticed, Portuguese star Ronaldo is very likely to miss the game due to injury, and the same goes for Ribery in the French team.

France might be considered with the hardest task, facing a very good Irish team and we believe they won’t manage a win in the away game in Dublin on Saturday. Bet365 gives a 4.50 (7/2) odds on a “Draw-Draw” bet of Halftime-Fulltime, which means the result must be a draw both in halftime and after full time in order to win. This is an automatic win if the result is 0-0. Bet365 consider France the favorite though, as most bookmakers, and they currently offer 2.37 (11/8) for a win for Les Blues.

Portugal is expected to win at home to Bosnia, and at Betfair you can bet Asian Hcp Portugal -1.0&-1.5 to 2.13 in current odds which means that you more than double your money if Portugal win by two goals, loose only half your stake if they win by one goal, and loose your whole stake if the Portuguese fail to win.

Portugal have a lot of quality in their team and others can step forward in the absence of Ronaldo. One of them is Chelsea midfielder Deco

“We have enough quality to plug the gap – we can’t use his absence as an excuse. We know it won’t be easy but we are confident .“ says Deco to Fifa.com

A gambler bet can be on Bosnia to score the first goal, where you get 3.95 at Betfair.

I wouldn’t say France and Portugal are under pressure. Sure they had a bad run at the beginning of the qualifiers but they have really started to perform lately. Teams like Ireland and Bosnia-Herzegovina will not be a challenge for these teams once they are competing for the final spots in the 2010 World Cup.

My predictions for the double meetings between these teams are:

    Ireland – France 1-1
    France – Ireland 1-0

    Portugal – Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0
    Bosnia-Herzegovina – Portugal 0-0

Both Portugal and France will be in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.
