Algeria Include Banned Players in their Preliminary Squad

11

The latest World Cup country to put forward its preliminary 30 man squad is Algeria, who join England, the USA and Slovenia in Group C. Algeria are planning to add another five players to the preliminary squad on the 11th May, just ahead of the team starting their World Cup training camp in Switzerland. The squad will eventually be whittled down to the 23 man line up who will play in South Africa.

Coach Rabah Saadane has stated that his intention is to keep the backbone of the Algeria team that made the semi-finals of the African Nations Cup in Angola earlier in the year. The difficulty here as that a couple of players picked up bans in that tournament, and will therefore have to miss 2010 World Cup games.

Defender Nadir Belhadj, who plays club football in the English Premiership with Portsmouth, was selected, though he will have to miss the first game against Slovenia. First choice goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi will have to miss both the Slovenia game and the second game against England, both because of bans given in the African Nations tournament.

With Algeria not highly fancied to make it through the group stage, it may have a significant impact that their best goalkeeper will miss two out of three of the games, including the one against the group favourites England.

Only four of the players in the preliminary 30 play in the Algerian domestic league, with the rest playing their club football elsewhere around the world. Three of the four are goal keepers, so it is likely that in Chaouchi’s absence a keeper with little international experience will have to be used against Slovenia and England.

After their Swiss training camp, Algeria have lined up two pre World Cup friendlies, both against unqualified teams. They will take on the Republic of Ireland, who narrowly missed qualification in a controversial play off against France, on May the 28th in Dublin. They then play the following week in Germany against the United Arab Emirates, just before heading to South Africa to start the competition.

How much more ignorant can a reporter get. I think you will find that both Chaouchi and Belhadj will not be missing a minute from any world cup game this year. They will although miss the Tanzania qualifier game for the “CAF” tournament.

In which case stop spreading lies, go and do your homework before you publish false stories, and don't try to ever do a story about the country of Algeria if you know absolutely nothing about it.

  • Zian

what are you talking about, Saadane (Manager) said in the briefing yesterday that Chaouchi was lucky he wasn't banned from the world cup. do you just make this shit up or just write what you hear in gossip.
chaouchi isnt gonna miss any game you fool.

  • Dimitrius

Unlike the previous two posters I don't really care if this is true or just a late April fool's joke. Fact remains that the Algerian team sucks which we saw some good examples of during the Cup of Nations and I will be glad to see them go home after the group stages.

  • Ryan

Well Mr Dimitrius, you can go fuck yourself with your ignorant, dumb shit source of knowledge. Why would you be glad? Have you got a problem with Algeria? Dont fucking insult stuff you know nothing about you cunt!

  • Zian

Who are you to make judgments on other teams. WHat is your problem. If that is the case dont go around reading articles about Algeria. Get a life because no matter how you deny it, Algeria are a brilliant team and are in a prestigious tournament deservedly

  • Mark Rodriguez

Go fuck yourself Dimitrius or whatever ur name may be. Algeria are a sick team, end off. Now piss off back to the gutter where you came from beause every member of that Algerian team is more of a man than you or any of your family will ever be

  • Dz

Here is a fact for the Algeria-hater, ur mom sucks, and she dropped a shit called Dimitrius. Go away you turd

  • Ben

Wow, there are some great ambassadors for Algeria in this comment section. Way to promote your country as a civil one. You obviously have a long way to go.

  • steven

Wow thats aggressive. Algeria obv deserve to be in WC as they manage to qualify, but honestly they played really boring football in the Cup of nations… If Im not mistaking they went through the group stages after scoring one single goal.. They need to step up to have any chance of progressing, I will bet against them..

  • Rymitti

Dimitrius, while it is true that the matchs against Malawi and Angola were pretty bad, you should watch the one against Ivory Coast again. We don't do great football, granted, but we are able to deliver good surprises. And our keeper rocks!

  • Dave

Don't form ideas from comments of one off people. Its like me saying 'hey look at Fritzl, he must represent european countries really well'.

In any case this guy has a point, i must sadly say that this article is a load of bull.
