World Cup Group B Betting Review

0

There are a number of ways to bet with your predictions for the outcomes of the 2010 World Cup groups. These include whether a given team will qualify, straight or reverse forecasts on the two qualifying teams, and predicting which team will finish in which place at the end of the group round. Bodog.com offer a number of betting options for each of the groups. Here we look at the possibilities for Group B, who commence play on the 12th of June.

Group B is a group that does have a strong favourite in Argentina, the fourth favourites to win the cup outright and the seeded team in this group. With Lionel Messi expected to be one of the stars of the tournament, there are a lot of hopes for this year’s Argentine squad, and it would be a big surprise if they fail to completely dominate this group.

Greece and South Korea are both teams who have famously caused some upsets in the Euro 2004 and World Cup 2002 competitions respectively, and with Nigeria, though not one of the most fancied of the African teams heading for South Africa, making up the four, there is still plenty of scope for drama in this group.

Nigeria may not come up as high on the bookies’ lists of favourites to win outright as the Ivory Coast or Ghana, at 100/1 with Bodog.com, they are still the second favourites in the group with South Korea at 250/1 and Greece 150/1 to lift the trophy.

The odds for the group winner reflect the bookies’ faith in the Argentina team, with Bodog offering 1/2 for them to win the group outright.

In the group straight forecast market, the favourite with Bodog.com is, as you might expect, Argentina followed by Nigeria at 2/1. For Argentina then Greece it is 13/5, and Argentina then South Korea 13/2. This shows some high expectations for relatively inexperienced World Cup side Nigeria, perhaps as a result of their greater familiarity with the kind of climate they will be playing in than the other group members.

Nigeria first with Argentina second gives you odds of 13/2.

Nigeria to finish second as a straight prediction on its own fetches odds of 7/4. Greece returns 9/4 and South Korea 9/2. Argentina in this position are at 13/4.

If you fancy some real upset in Group B, the odds of Argentina finishing bottom in the group are currently 18/1. They are 9/1 to finish third.
