Glenn Stromberg’s 2010 World Cup Group D Predictions
Glenn Stromberg’s World Cup Preview – GROUP D
1. Germany 1.80
2. Serbia 4.00
3. Australia 9.25
4. Ghana 5.30
- Going through: Germany/Serbia
- My best bet: Serbia finishing second in the group
Germany should never be under-estimated in major championships. They are only one of five teams that went unbeaten during the qualifiers. They have lost their captain, Michael Ballack but this won’t be such a big blow as they have great players such as Schweinsteiger that can come in and be counted. Germany has quite a few good players who will impress in the 2010 World Cup.
Serbia is a team with more than just a solid defense that contains key duo Vidic and Ivanovic. They are a very resilient team who are hard to beat and pose a huge threat at corners and set pieces. Serbia managed to top their group that included France so shouldn’t be taken lightly. They are a team to look out for in South Africa.
Ghana has a very strong midfield including Appiah and Muntari. They are similar to Mexico in that they will struggle to get goals and for that reason I feel they will struggle this time around.
Australia impressed in the last World Cup and easily qualified this time around for this campaign. Their coach Pim Verbeek is very smart but they lack creativity and will be quite easy to read by their opponents. They will depend heavily on their main player Tim Cahill and hope that Harry Kewell will be able to produce some of his old form.
